With a start I looked at the date of this song.
1976!
32 years ago! Before many of you here were born.
Me? I was starting a career in IT, living with a bunch of hippies, albeit a dying breed by then, putting this LP on the turntable and shaking the windows with this song.
The owner of the house owned a pair of Kef speakers hooked up to some high end piece of equipment that also accommodated the Moog Synthesizer that he played as keyboardist for a local band. It had power, and the Kefs provided the relief that this song demanded.
It was a tester of bass response. It was the beginning of the end of the Genesis big sound, and the song carried an almost prophetic title. To this day I still play it, loud, when I want a real fix of earth shaking, gut punching, stereophonic full bodied blast.
I like it.

Excellent song. Steve Hackett's second to last with the group.
One of my all time favourite Genesis tracks although they are all pretty damn good to me. They had such a deep rich sound that was beautiful to listen to. My 28year old linear accoustic speakers still crank it out
I have you beat on the speakers Mitchy. I'm still using Yamaha NS-100M's bought in 1976, and they're still, as you say, cranking it out. I'll show you mine if you show me yours.:-)
well, you know I love me some Genesis. A Trick . . . is not my favorite by the, but it does have some excellent moments on it, this being one of them.
My speakers, sadly, do not deliver the punch they used to. That's what happens when kids get around them and poke them with pointy things.
The speakers with pointy thing damage will be great memories one day Chuck. One of our prized possessions is a fine wooden table with hammer marks all across the top. The car that my 2 year old "washed" with a 2x4 one day I sold.
But when the empty nest comes, I expect to hear that you went out and bought new speakers.
hopefully, I won't wait that long. I figure once the kids all learn "pointy thing = bad" I might give it a try.
