Chest Out There MOGger!! Hold That Head Up!!!!

Artist:
Just got back from the in-laws, which means I spent the weekend away from MOG, Facebook, LastFM, and a host of other sites that I frequent every day.
Not unusual for a trip away, except this time, because I'm a MOG addict, I had to bring up the subject, hoping to generate some excitement for my "hobby." (you're all a hobby of mine ya know?)
I explained, as best I could to the elderly pair, what MOG is, why it's important, and how much "fellowship" I get from being here. Somewhere in the conversation, I had mentioned Facebook, but only ever so briefly in the context of social networking. So I found it interesting that the first comment I got back was "what's Facebook?"
Doh!!
But it got me wondering "what IS MOG anyway?" Is it sufficient to call it a social networking site with the emphasis on music? But then, to a Facebooker, is it sufficient to call Facebook a social networking site with emphasis on........everything? And I end up asking, perhaps concluding, that those of us who MOG, and those of us who Facebook, and those of us who Twitter, or Flickr, or Craigslist, on a regular, addictive basis, are all probably evangelists for that which captures us.
In a way that makes MOG no different from any site or activity that captures our attention, in deed our beings, and makes itself our habit.
It's what makes the world go round, and although a world of all MOGgers would be nice to those of us who MOG, it would indeed not be very sustainable after a short while.
For me, I'm back from the weekend, glad to be home, and thankful to be listening and reading and posting once again.
Groon and I Am, I don't know how you did it for so long.

Honestly, for me it wasn't so bad. I had just come off of the 31 post spree, and was ready for a bit of a break. I think it saved me from getting burned out, and renewed my energy. It was actually easier in thr long run than, say, a weekend away like you just had. glad you're back!
wow ... I haven't heard that song in a long time. The video is sweet ... one video with: big hair, a dude in overalls and a 70's-version-super-hottie for a singer ... I'm gonna save that one on my you-tube favorites :p
what's with the audience? too stoned to move? damn, I'm bouncing on my chair and they look like they're watching a boring tv show. the times ~ they have changed :)
yes! another MOG maniac! i'm not sure how i would explain MOG to elders, but when speaking with peers, i refer to it as an online community with super cool tech/toys...
like hanging out in a room with a record player and we all take turns spinning selections for each other. :)
MOG is different. I cannot explain why at 06:30 on a Monday......but it is different.
not unlike yurself :-)
Cinful, they never really landed on the moon, er, played to a live audience, those were all paper cut out figures and a laugh track.
I tried to explain Mog to my brother and he asked if I got paid for it. I said no and he was flabberghasted as to why I would do such a thing for free. Some people just don't understand.
For us music aficionados, there's nothing better than having a friend who you can share your latest music finds and news with. Mog is kind of like a network of such friends.
fistula - David (the BIG DH) must get a kick out of this. Free marketing! But you're right, people really don't understand.
Democlez - absolutely! they don't listen to us at parties, so we can come here and know we'll get good critical and appreciative responses. It's hard to believe, I know, but I actually know someone who says he doesn't like music. I think he means it's not a big thing in his world, at least I hope that's what he means cuz I can't imagine anyone not being moved by some sort of music at some point in their life.
Great song to pull out. I agree with you that MOG is hard to discribe to a non Moggeer. I guess we all feel that music isa very important part of our world and enjoy the company of like minded people.
as DMDM says, it's a bit hard to define, but MOG has a unique ambiance compared to anywhere else I've experienced. I think it's the informed, inquisitive and genuine people that congregate here.
Argent!?! Just a few nights ago, I was looking at concert photos I took in high school. Argent are right there in the front, and I even have the band emblem sticker still tucked away with em! Gotta pull out some Russ Ballard now man...
