I lost track of Genesis after, I think, the "Then There Were Three" album. I felt that after that they just lost their grit. We now know, of course, that it was Phil Collins' direction into pop land that really sent Genesis almost over the cliff.
My favorite album is probably "Lamb Lies Down on Broadway," with all others pre Invisible Touch coming in as close seconds.
But in 1996 they gained the incredible vocals of Ray Wilson, a star in his own right with a voice that can rock hard or soothe. He also was the lead singer on their 1997 CD "Calling All Stations" that didn't do that well, and has even been panned by critics. He's definnitely got the Genesis voice, if you get my drift.
I happen to like the CD. It's proggish pop, if there is such a thing. Take a listen to a couple of tunes. "If That's What You Need" is a love song that deserves attention.
I've also included Ray Wilson on the RPWL video "Roses."

Big Genesis fan here, but I do have to say it took me awhile to come around to the poppier side of phil collins work leading the band. I still cut off my Genesis knowledge at "Invisible Touch" though. This wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, give me another decade and maybe I might like it more.
In a decade your taste will have morphed at least ten times. You may start listening to more of everything.
Like me.
I believe you're a prog fan n'est pas?
I happen to like the CD too, Cap. There Must Be Some Other Way and One Man's Fooltwo of my favorites and the longer songs (big surprise that I like the longer songs). I have posted the lyrics to Not About Us and The Dividng Line. I believe that Calling All Stations should have gotten better reviews and more recogition.
That was sweet on a Monday morning. Ciao.
