So here we are , its been too long since Portishead has toured or released their follow up to their second LP and last night I got the pleasure of seeing them live on my computer from Coachella; but man I wish I had been there! But here I am back also to MOG and not to the hail of critics and MOGGERS delightful screams of Hurrah - to a much lesser extent in fact but back none the less...So last night I did what everyone else hopefully not at Coa did and I plopped down in front of the 22" syncmaster Samsung - got the Weber BBQ kicking , my pack of cigajane and jug of whisky and prepared myself for a treat , Portishead co headlining Coa with a delightful follow up romp by Irish sweethearts 'Flogging Molly'...The UK golden band Portishead fronted by the lovely beth hit the stage and after a short intro invaded my living room and cerebral space with all the bravado and beautiful sonic landscape with enough panache to make me forget it had been so very long. They intermingled new and old with their deft craft and pleased both new and old fans with such hits as , 'Hunter' , 'Machine Gun' , 'Silence' , 'Mysterons', Glory Box and basically the cult faves we all love and are enjoying live for the first time off their Junior album 'Third'. The peak for me was 'We Carry On' which just blew the doors down - the sound on the stream was fantastic and unfaltering ; with fantatsic camera work and a ginormous back screen behind the band that short of being there in my own flesh suit - made it surreal , fantastic and heart breaking all at once. Anyone who says they are depressing is way off - they inspire with their brilliant live drum and bass trippy hop , Beths sweet sweet sultry voice ( im single and want to be your boytoy Beth! )and precision guitar work. I was very impressed! It has been almost 10 years since I saw them at a very intimate show in Miami, Florida supporting the second LP and it was a hard wait , but well worth it. If only I had been there , but alas they are back and I hope to see them soon. My MOGtiply friends were there ( most!) and from all the early reports Henry , Amber , Blair , August , Lizzie Kate and Dale were having a splendiforus and chummy blast. I really wish I was there... alas I hope and plan on being a California resident this time next year ( yes , the rumours are true - lock up your Rottweilers and women ) so it shouldnt stop me from being there next year and years after , COA )( starts here! So all in all , a great free ride at home I must say and well received it seems by the crowd as well. So who am I ( see NixneSvix and WaxlRoseJr )? Well I left for reasons well known by a lot , but decided to see whats going on again and I am glad to be back here amongst my good old friends as well as some new and future. Ill give the old girl a spin again and see whats what... miss me? I missed you... welcome back Portishead - great to see you carry on...MOG- thanks for having me... carry on... PS - Quite aptly 'The Shout Louds' were singing , "Lets Call This a Comeback" and I am settling in for another great night of wonderful tunage by the following but most importantly everyones favorite Gypsy Punks and mine 'Gogol Bordello'..."ILLUMINATION!"(line up and linkage for tonite the third nite:07:40 PM Shout Out Louds08:30 PM Duffy09:20 PM Manchester Orchestra10:15 PM Stars11:10 PM Spiritualized12:15 AM Gogol Bordello01:10 AM Metric02:05 AM Love and Rocket)http://www.attblueroom.com/music/Coachella-Valley-Music-and-Arts-Festival/live-webcast.php
