Happy Birthday to not only a fine guitarist but a very creative and inspiring spirit. As a kid I grew up listening to the Red Hot Chili Peppers (primarily the Freaky Styley LP) along with a variety of KISS records. As their career progressed I like many, wrote them off around the Californication/By The Way period. It was only until recently this past October I had the chance to see the Peppers perform two nights at the Wachovia Center in Philly. To see not only how this band has grown, but also how John has grown into an incredibly accomplished guitar player is amazing. He managed to release 6 solo albums, at the rate of one each month. Each is drastically different yet offers the listener something special and unique if your willing. My re-introduction to this artist has sparked a new interest in the guitar and what you can accomplish with it. Not only that but the spiritual aspect of life, something which is often lost in the busy world we live in. It is possible to reach the lowest depths, and surface once again stronger then ever before.
It's good to see that he is finally begining to gain some recognition for his work:

I've included "The Past Recedes" from his Curtains album. For those who are willing or interested in checking out music that is very different from the Peppers style. Most of which I believe was more or less recorded in his living room. Happy Birthday to a man who puts music out there for one purpose...for those who want to listen.

awesome post! i love john frusciante's solo work! i wish he put out an album a month all the time. i saw the chili peppers in january and i have to agree they're pretty amazing. some said they played too many new songs, and others said they didn't play enough off stadium arcadium, but it was just right for me. i liked how each of them (except anthony kiedis) played solo at some point, too. john broke out the acoustic and sang otherwise unaccompanied, which pleasantly surprised me. and hearing him and flea jamming just blew my mind. happy (belated) birthday, john!

I saw them in concert that day too. I have never been to a concert with more energy from the crowd and the band. I love John's work as much as RHCP. He is extremely innovative. I find that some of his songs sound like By the Way, but he is still the best. Too bad I never saw that article from Rolling Stones though.
