Cream in NYC

Posted almost 4 years ago
Cream at Madison Square Garden, New York, NY, October 25, 2005.This wasn't Cream quite like most people remember them. Yes, it was actually the original members, a pretty rare feat this days in reuniting bands, but they are not cranking out psychedlic blooze like they did the first time around. This was Cream for the Eric Clapton crowd: extraordinarily well-put-together, high-level musicianship, solos in all the right places, and not too challenging. And if you think that's a slam you're wrong. A night of Cream playing electric blues is still better than most shows you will see! I love Ginger Baker and really respect what he has done with his career since the 60s (see my earlier post on the topic), so I didn't expect to be as psyched as I was to see Jack Bruce! These guys (Clapton aside) look old. I really dug the way it seemed that they weren't all made up and hair-dyed (I mean, come on, you go see these older touring bands and none of them have gone grey except Charlie Watts? WTF?). And of course they can play. For me, Badge was worth the whole night...Setlist:I'm So GladSpoonfulOutside Woman BluesPressed RatSleepy Time TimeTales of Brave UlyssesNSUBadgePoliticianSweet WineRolllin' & TumblinStormy MondayDeserted CitiesBorn Under A Bad SignWe're Going WrongCrossroadsSitting On Top Of The WorldWhite RoomToadSunshine Of Your LoveHere is a great site of reviews and photos...Download Cream from Madison Square Garden, October 25, 2005:disc onedisc two

  1. Bartleby says I'm a partisan of Clapton reined in a proper band. It sounds like a good night out. Thanks the dl links.
