Denver Broncos Cheerleader Reenee Herlocker.‘What you gonna do when things go wrong? What you gonna do when it all cracks up? What you gonna do when the Love burns down? What you gonna do when the flames go up?Who is gonna come and turn the tide? What's it gonna take to make a dream survive? Who's got the touch to calm the storm inside? Who's gonna save you? Alive and Kicking’! (Classic song lyrics by the ‘SIMPLE MINDS’ from the song Alive and Kicking’ from their phenomenal cd ‘Once Upon A Time’) Hear ‘Alive And Kicking’ at http://sportsblogbybubb.podomatic.com (Also check out their classics ‘All The Things She Said ’, ‘Sanctify Yourself’ and ‘Ghost Dancing’) Once Upon a Time, featuring producer Jimmy Iovine (U2, Stevie Nicks, Bruce Springsteen), showcased more of a guitar-driven sound. ‘Simple Minds' popularity was expounded on songs such as Alive & Kicking" and "Sanctify Yourself." This album was one of their best, most likely leading the pack in the band's album roster, because it exuded raw energy and solid composition not entirely captured on previous albums. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music GuideNFL Week 16 had to be one of the most unbelievable weeks of the season thus far. Let me elaborate: For the 1st time in franchise history, the Houston Texans beat the Colts. The Ravens beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh for the 1st time since 2001, knocking them out of the playoff hunt. The usual can’t win in Cold Weather team, Tampa Bay Bucs beat the Browns in Cold weather Cleveland. The Panthers still beat the Falcons despite quarterback Chris Weinke’s 32 yards passing. The Seattle Seahawks lost their 3rd game in a row, 4 out of their last 6 and still won the division last week, since Arizona knocked the 49ers out of the playoff picture. Actually Arizona has the best record within their division with a 5 – 10 overall record. What? Shows you how terrible the NFC West is! The Giants lost 6 out of their last 7 games and they’re actually still ‘Alive And Kicking’ in the playoff hunt. Huh?Turns out these games I mentioned above are also the majority of the picks I got wrong last week. After the way I picked in NFL Week 16, it’s unfortunate that I’m still ‘Alive And Kicking’ as well. Just kidding? No I’m not, yes I am! I was 6 and 10 overall in my Picks last week and I’m still writing this NFL blog? Kind of sounds like the Giants and Seahawks, doesn’t it? Now you know why I post Cheerleader photos and Music with my newsletters! Hopefully, I can redeem and ‘Sanctify’ myself (Simple Minds) for NFL Week 17 with the following picks.I Will Not pick the Detroit Lions over the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys should be able to get back on track against this pitiful opponent, especially at Home. The Cowboys will not lose 2 in a row at home. Will they? I also Will Not pick Atlanta over Philadelphia! GOODBYE! Jim Mora! Hope you get that phone call you always wanted from the Washington Huskies! Go ‘Back To School’ (Rodney Dangerfield). My BOLD Fake – Out for NFL week 17 is the Washington Redskins over the New York Giants 20 -19. Actually I should probably not even call this BOLD, anymore, the way the Giants are playing. GOODBYE to you too Tom Coughlin! Playoffs or not? My Bonus Fake – Out is the Carolina Panthers over the Saints 21 – 20. Two strange teams here, the Panthers seem to play better on the Road, and so do the Saints. My Bonus - LOCK this week is the New York Jets over the Raiders 27 – 13. My 50 – 50’s are the Texans over the Browns 23 -20 and the Bengals over the Steelers 30 – 27.And now since this next team will still be ‘Alive And Kicking’ after this Sunday, right into the Playoffs, my Stone Cold Lead Pipe Lock for NFL Week 17 is the: DENVER BRONCOS over the San Francisco 49ers 27 – 16 (the 49ers are 3 – 12 in their past 15 games against the AFC)PS. BUB ’S STATS OF THE WEEK /SEASONNFL Week 16: 6 – 10 (‘HUH’) Regular-season record Straight up: 143 – 97 Regular-season record LEADPIPE LOCKS: 12 – 5 BONUS LOCKS: 7 – 5 Regular – season record Fake – outs: 14 – 12 Regular Season Fifty – fifties: 7 – 12 Will Nots: 13 – 6

  1. sam9muhr says After the Denver game last week, realizing that the score was 23-24 like you said, I was pretty much in awe. Nice call!

  4. bubb says Yes, I have to admit, that freaked me out as well, predicting the exact score. I don't usually pick final scores that well at all! HAPPY NEW YEAR! Sam Bubb

  5. Rawkkiddoh says I was dying this last week when Indy lost. What was it you said.....I Will Not pick the Houston Texans over Indianapolis. Not even ‘Once In A Lifetime’ (Talking Heads). Sometimes you gotta go with your gut. Here is my big question, who will the Bears start at quarterback in the play-offs. You call that one, and you are the man.

  6. deadmandeadman says The New York Papers are calling for coughlin's head. They want Charlie Weis. Wouldn't THAT be something? Some of the giants objected to Coughlin's petty tough guy schtick, Weis' low key titanium will will stun these slackers. Eli will get the coach he needs..............we can dream can't we? Once again bubb, an entertaining post, eagerly anticipated each week. An' now i get the bubbcast!! :)

  7. bubb says Rawkkiddo, What killed me even more about the Indy loss was that I had Reggie Wayne in my Fantasy Football Championship game and he had a whopping 3 catches for 27 yards. Also, my opponent had John Kitna as his quarterback and Kitna had 3 td passes and passed for 288 yards. Needless to say, I lost. So not only were my picks bad in NFL Week 16. I also lost in Fantasy Football. What a devestating week all around! As far as the Bears go, yes, that is a tough call, but I think they'll stick with Grossman. Whats the saying? 'Dance with the one that brung ya'. Well something like that!

  8. bubb says deadmandeadman, I should have known not to pick against your Patriots last week. It just worked out that way, since the Jaguars were one of the only teams left I hadn't used as a Leadpipe Lock. Unfortunately I run my NFL Blog/Newsletter like a Survivor Pool. Meaning, i don't pick the same Leadpipe Lock twice. So, I basically knew I would lose on that pick. Also, especially since I haven't Jacksonville right all year, I believe. Had no idea I'd lose on the rest of my Newsletter/Blog picks last week though! Charlie Weiss would be a great fit for the Giants job!

  11. bubb says Sam9, I can't believe the Broncos lost to the 49ers at Home. And then to make matters even worse, Darrent Williams gets killed, several hours after the game. What a horrible day all around! Bubb
