GG Allin: Crazy or Genius?
-
Artist:

GG Allin. You've heard the stories, or maybe seen the Todd Phillips documentary Hated: GG Allin and the Murder Junkies. After I saw that I think I had nightmares for about a week.
Uh, controversial to say the very least.
What do you think about GG? Crazy, genius, both??

If ever there was a real life candidate for excorcisim GG Allen was it. I see no genius to his work it's the work of an insain mind allowed to run it's course to the fullest degree. there was no reedeeming feature to his work No constructive pourpose No real goal to speak of He was the only true anarchist that I have ever heard of. He had no rules and didn't even protect his own life. So I would say that yes he was definantly insain.
Who dat?
Never liked his music even though I'm into the genre. Genius? Maybe from a marketing standpoint, but the music/lyrics certainly weren't. I think extreme is a better choice than crazy/insane...you certainly wouldn't call Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, Marylin Manson, GWAR etc. nuts just because they were smart enough to use extremism to their advantage. If G.G. didn't act the way he did on stage, nobody would've ever heard of him. I'd lean towards genius, although you have to be a little crazy to do some of the shit he used to do. Great tune below, btw...
BTW that Dee Dee Ramone on guitar in the clip above, just FYI :-)
I think the NOFX song called Punk Guy says it all
Crazier than GG,
More PC than Ian.
Got colored teeth like Johnny,
Exludes a vicious disposition.
His hair sticks out like Colin's did, he jumps,
Similar to Springa, he points his middle finga.
Not just he singer in the band.
Voted biggest asshole, and role model of the year
Got a face like Charles Bronson,
Straight outta Green Bay Wisconsin,
Not just a singer in the band.
He'll puke on you, he'll fuck your mom,
He'll smoke while huffing gas.
He was the punkest mother fucker I ever did see.
'Ah Hell he's even more punk than me.'
He should've been on the cover,
He should've been on the cover,
He should've been on the cover
of Punk and Disorderly (Volume II)
I think the word "tune" might be a bit inappropriate for this one.
I'll go with crazy. I'm a firm believer that just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should. I son't care to watch someone take a shit on stage, it's hard enough watching Pink Flamingos. Shock value kind of sets a bar for people to try to out do, and that's just more about being daring than creative.
Crazy genius...
crazy? maybe ... unique? to a degree ... he fulfilled one possibility of being among many others on this great playing field ...
i vote crazy.
Very open to trying new things?
Hated was re-released with new footage in 2007. The first 5,000 copies came with free temporary tattoos based on some of Allin's real tattoos, and a mail-in offer for a poster featuring artwork of Allin painted by serial killer and friend John Wayne Gacy.
After its release "Hated" received a 5-Star review in Revolver magazine.

Lol!
I hate to be so cynical, but the above info made me laugh . . .
he did really good poppunk early on, i think i posted some of his early stuff last year. anywho big gg fan here but i was going through a scat phase.
He's no genius, but I love that he "went there." Just like his brother is no genius for shaving a Hitler moustache. Pooping onstage is sort of the performance equivalent of a Hitler moustache, as in, "Guess what? No-one wants to see that."
That being said, it's pretty damn rock to do things people don't want to see. GG just managed to get over his own ego enough to do those things most of us can't imagine doing. I think there was definitely some psychological disconnect in his brain that allowed him to go there, but hey, it's a free country, and it turns out a lot of us were willing to watch and make him into a minor celebrity. I say, GO FOR IT.
Contra...forget Pink Flamingos...do yourself (everyone actually) a favor and hunt down a copy of Desperate Living...Waters' masterpiece, IMO.
A mix of all the above.
Certainly insanitary.
I'll say he's crazy and stupid. I like em though. Some of his songs when coherent were pretty good too. The stories are definitely out there and legendary. There's no one else like him.
Much of the music I've heard of his has been pretty incoherent IMO. Crazy and repugnant, but then there's always going to be odd forms of life that enjoy that sort of stuff.
I've ever heard of the group! But after you said you had nightmares from the documentary then that means I should not watch it either. However, I can deal with horror stories to a certain extent! Thank you for the warning!
it creeped me out.... A LOT
Crazy like... no crazier than Alex Jones. But crazy insane nonetheless.
Ugh....a friend of mine set me up when he told me to watch this.
I skipped through it actually... to be honest....
All i can say is "Was that necessary????"
Ha! H.M. Brittany you put this post up just two days after my run in with the Dvd!
Too much with the constant coincidences on Mog.....
I couldn't believe it when i saw the header of your latest post....
almost fell off the chair.
"It creeped me out ...A LOT?".... well that's a relief!
hahaa. hope you no fall down, go boom.
Hi, not been on here in a while. Hope you're having a good week, and that things are well generally!
Please check out our Concubine album on iTunes, amazon etc. Also being streamed on Last FM.
Talk soon. Ben :0xx
Finally getting to this B. I've not been much of a punk fan, although I kinda went through a phase when I got into Nirvana/Green Day but that's as close as I've gotten. Heard alot about GG though from the rock rags. I think he's the rock equivalent to Annie Sprinkle the well known porn performance artist who spread for audiences to view her hoo ha(among other things). Now that I'm thinking of Sprinkle I'm wondering if Erykah's unrecorded/unreleased song 'Annie' might be inspired by Sprinkle. Check it out in this post of mine "*HERE*":http://mog.com/Augusts1/blog/168742#comments. Hilarious!
Sometimes being classified as a genious involves nothing more then thinking differently. This ability to see and think about things differently can either have a benefit or get you classified as batshit insane.
There is a reason why they say there is a fine line between genious and insanity.
bizarro, some may stray from expressing themselves due to not wanting to be on the "batshit insane" list. it's a fiiiine line indeed.

Clearly the sanest man who ever prented to be a genius.
Which puts him and his penniless biographers at a severe disadvantage when it comes to cadging warm beers in the unoccupied urinal.
Crazy?
Maybe not.
ah ha! creepy says he ain't crazy.
But then again, he is named Uncle Creepy . . . .
Heh heh, this is true. Still great to see someone say GG is "maybe not" crazy.
