Aging Rappers Losing Their Gangsta Lean

Posted over 2 years ago

The above image of Ice Cube was sent to me earlier today. Aren't you glad we grew up in a time before Ice Cube started making fun-for-the-whole-family fishing movies? Back when he was keepin' his shit real, son. Like, really real. Just goes to show that once you hit a certain age in the "rap game," you've got to move on to other ways of hustling. It's kind of like the recent season premiere of 30 Rock when Tracy Jordan realizes he's lost touch with his fan-base and the topics of his jokes are about eating lobster in St. Bart's. Below, a few rappers who've changed up their steez just a little.

Snoop went from jumpsuit-wearing Crip to cowboy with a perm.

Dre, no wonder the entire rap world is still waiting for Detox! Instead of smelling his stash in the studio and getting his 'creative spark' on, the man is scuba diving (St. Bart's?) and working out a lot.

Ice-T was a bad muthafucka. Then he became an SVU cast member and can be found digging through trash looking for guns. You know he's turning the guns over to Detective Benson.

Then you've got to figure some of these dudes have, at this point, been richer longer than they ever were poor.  Where's the street cred in that?

I still think Ice-T would kick you in the mouth as soon as look at ya if you pissed him off.

Besides, he created Rap Rock, and with tracks like "Evil Dick", he will always be a Bad Motha Fuggah!

yeah, it's pretty hard to be angry when you're 40 years old and rich as hell. Everyone in this post fits that criteria (except Snoop Dogg, who hasn't hit 40 yet).

When you consider how crazy and reckless some rappers go about their business.... im just happy these guys are alive and wealthy still.

Ha, good point. It's sad really. I saw previews for that Ice Cube movie & threw up in my mouth a little, it looked so bad.

I lost my gangsta lean long ago(seriously, I used to be into it).

And DAMN Dre got some thighs going on, sheeeit!

The only ones who didn't make it to this point - were those who got shot down in their prime.

Hitting 40? Ice T (or Terry to his mother) must be hitting at least 60.

    Lol!

Well, yeah - some make it to that age too.

Anyway - didn't you know?  "60 is the new 40"

    Amen to that, brother.

I'm sure Robin Danar doesn't disagree either ;-)
