WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Black Cab Sessions! Starring My Morning Jacket, Brian Wilson, The National...

Posted 9 months ago

There are times when taking a cab is the only answer. The weather is crap, your shoes are not fit for walking from here to the corner (nevermind ten city blocks), you're too drunk to stand, it's 3 a.m. and you're in a sketchy neighborhood, or you're in an unfortunate walk-of-shame moment and need to escape NOW. Cabs may get a bad rep, like when they never show up to get you, but in my late night/early morning cab-riding career the times I've spent in them have done the job and gotten me where I want to be, which is usually passed out in my luxurious bed.

Gen Stevens, founder of Black Cab Sessions, created his whole concept around cab rides, specifically cab rides with talented musicians, from the well-known (Brian Wilson, Daniel Johnston, Death Cab for Cutie) to the up-and-coming (Fleet Foxes, Man Man, Ane Brun). The cab sessions are shot in one take, which is especially fun to watch when the band is crammed against each other, instruments crowding their laps. Stevens was recently "blown away by Sunset Rubdown." View their performance along with all of the other Black Cab Sessions.

A couple of my favorites are below but I also recommend you head to their site and view Man Man's session.

they are good, been watching this for over a year now and love them. I don't like that they went to a special VIMEO membership only to be able to post there stuff, I don't think this was a good move. The best one I have seen is Amanda Palmer's, but love Brian Wilson's and MMJ too!

wundabar Brit! I've seen a few of these, Slow Club and Lykke Li, and everyone seems to be great fun! That MMJ seems a lot more polished than the back of a cab deserves. And Emmy looks like she's just having fun!!
You mention taking a cab because "you're too drunk to stand"...what if you're too stoned to tell north from south? just wonderin :)
