Track:Give Peace A Chance
Featuring songs of peace activist John Lennon performed by artists such as U2, REM, Christina Aguilera, Los Lonely Boys, Jackson Browne, Green Day, Avril Lavigne, Ben Harper and you guessed it...Jack Johnson. The country of Darfur, combined with neighboring Chad, is in need of extreme assistance during recent struggles 400,000 people have died, and over 2.5 million people have been displaced from their homes.
Sometimes it takes somber events and news to bring people together. It is unfortunate when that happens, but it is better late than never. As we saw with Live Earth and Live8, people will join in mass numbers to contribute to good causes; all they need is music. The album, Instant Karma: The Campaign to Save Darfur, released on June 12, 2007. There are two discs and 23 tracks of music put together by amazingly talents singers and musicians to help raise money for people in need.Yoko Ono donated the rights to John Lennon's entire catalog for this release. "John Lennon was not just a famous Beatle, he was the social conscience of his generation," says Jeff Ayeroff, one of the album's executive producers. You will hear Aerosmith singing reggae with Sierra Leone Refuge All-Stars, Jack Johnson and Avril Lavigne with their own renditions of his song "Imagine."Don't let the fact that Christina Aguilera is covering Lennon's song "Mother" deter you from buying this album. She does the song justice and you can tell that every other artist took great pains to make sure they did as well. You won't hear people trying to sound just like John Lennon; each artist put their own signature on the songs; but this is a good thing if you ask me. So whether you are an avid John Lennon follower, or just a huge music lover, you are going to absolutely fall in love with this album.
