My inital thoughts after only a few listens:
On it's own an awesome record... but for a Beck record sort of disappointing at first listening. Also, after alot of talk about Danger Mouse's "genius production" I feel alot of the drum beats are blahseh/cliche...
That isn't to say the album is trash, the lyrics are blowing my mind already... and the first half of the record is instantly catchy. Youthless instantly made feel tingly, and is still bringing a smile to my face.
I think the mixing is sort of weird in some places, i.e. the vocals in Profanity Prayers seem to be pretty low and that's just odd.
I love Volcano... such awesome lyrics and a cool sound, but I feel the ending is sort of anti-climactic.
As with most new Beck releases, this is denfitely going to take more listens to sort through. More/Proper review coming soon...

awesome, i'm actually feeling better about this album since hearing the song here. i wasn't really feeling "chemtrails" too much...maybe i just need to listen to it more. do you think it was still a smart idea for him to work with Dangermouse? i'll keep my eye out to read your review.

I'm not sure about a lot of the songs I have heard so far from this album-I have only given it a few listens and haven't heard all the tracks.
I do really like Chemtrails - not keen on Timebomb at all, one of those tracks I immediately turn off before I hear more than a few seconds-sorry Beck!
Still not convinced by Beck overall. I like a track or so every now and then but a whole Beck album is way too much for me. I always want to react better and hope to be pleasantly surprised but most of the time hardly any of his tunes resonate with me. He won me with Loser when I was a wee teenager and loses me with tracks like Timebomb but I still check back after hearing tracks like Chemtrails -does all this make sense?!!
