THE MUSIC BLOGGING HIVE MIND

let's do the UKA BOO

Posted 11 months ago

I'm going to go ahead and break format here and post just this one video, instead of two. For one, if I did find a companion video for it, it would be completely contrived, lacking the connection that previously existed before any of the other pairs were posted for your pleasure. For two, what we have here is a fantastic song, and, what I just discovered to be, a fantastic video. There really needn't be any more than that, does there? Probably not, but I'll go on anyways...

I'm pretty sure the first time I ever heard about Shonen Knife was the brief mention they received in the liner notes from Incesticide. I'm pretty sure the first time I actually heard Shonen Knife was during one of those music segments on the cartoon network that they used to do. Eventually, I bumped into this album in the Skuff bin at my favorite record store. Riding on the Rocket is the first track on said album, and by the time the song had finished playing for the first time I had been both mocked by a friend and won over by this wonderful band.

Enjoy.

  1. Zeroskilz says Cool. I don't think I've ever gave them a listen. I also don't rememember seeing them mentioned in the liner notes of Incesticide (which, is only second to the Unplugged album, IMO). Knowing that they were mentioned, I'm guessing as an influence, I'm shocked that they sound a bit like a surf band. Great vid, but the blue-eyed cat kind of freaked me out a bit. :)

  2. brand X says the mention reads as follows: "It was as rewarding as touring with Shonen Knife and watching people practically cry with joy at their honesty. It made people happy and it made me happy knowing that I had helped bring them to the UK." "full text":http://members.fortunecity.com/myparasite/incesticide.htm I've said before that Incesticide is Nirvana's best, but I've always wound up regretting the statement. The Nirvana album hierarchy is one of those things that tends to change on a regular basis for me. Nonetheless, it is certainly worthy of a much higher spot than some give it credit for.

  3. Zeroskilz says Thanks for saving me the trouble of looking it up. You are probably right about the ranking. Even as I was typing the statement, I wondered where In Utero fit in that list. It's why I left the Honest out of IMO. I wasn't really sure how honest I was being at the moment; I just knew I liked it better than most of Nevermind. So, the avatar. I feel like there is something more to this; as I cannot definitely assign anything to it. I get the impression that I'm actually focussing on the negative of the image, but I cannot untrain my eye to refocus on the postitive. Kind of like the two faces/vase image. Am I reading too much into this or is it really just abstract? There is something about your posts that make me want to question everything for a possible alternate meaning.

  4. brand X says !http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/candywarehouse_1935_44217974! "These monsters of the deep are made in the assorted colors of a teeming barrier reef and have yummy marshmallow underbellies.":http://www.candywarehouse.com/sharksassorted.html Late one night I smashed a blue gummi shark's marshmallow underbelly on the glass of a B/W Xerox scanner, played around with the color in photoshop and voila! There's nothing significantly significant about the image, it just pleases my eyes.

  5. Zeroskilz says That's funny. When it comes to satisfying my gummi needs, I am persnally attached to Swedish Fish. Well, at least I'm not a visual idiot; evidently just a paranoid one. For the record, my first thought was fish, but it seemed too obvious... obviously. :) From Shonen Knife to Nirvana to gummi sharks (with marshmalow bellies). Who would have though.
