The Hiroshima viedo was one of the most disturbing and effective pieces of art I've seen in a very long time. Where did it come from? I assume the animators are Japanese, for several reasons....

It is entirely amazing, isn't it? although the comments on youtube say that it is from a movie called "grave of the fireflies," the movie I remember the clip from is called "barefoot gen." I don't know if it is a case of one movie having two different titles or if the youtube commenter is just mistaken. It is most definitely japanese, but it has been released in the us, you should be able to find it on netflix, but probably not at your local video store unless they happen to have a remarkable inventory.
Tangentially, I would advise against reading the comments for this clip on youtube, as they made me want to kill myself. To be fair, though, it isn't entirely uncommon for me to want to off myself after reading youtube comments.

I was thinking as I watched it, if this is making me feel as enraged and despairing as it is, how must the people who created it have felt? I'm certainly checking out the entire movie but must be very careful. My 11-year-old son is a massive anime fan and will leap on this if he sees it. I don't think he's going to be ready for it for quite a few years....
