I'm a rebel and unconventional in many ways, but I know how to keep my cool in any situation. I'm somewhat bohemian, but my OCD helps keep me neat and tidy. My Miller Analogies Test score could easily get me into MENSA, but who in their right mind would want to be around those people. I make people laugh a lot, but it's a dry humor, like the air in Arizona. Kids like me. I can't explain that one, but it helps when your an educator.

I also don't mind if you don't know the difference between the Gaslight Anthem and the Low Anthem, Ryan Adams and Bryan Adams, the Felice Brothers or the Pernice Brothers, Patty Griffin and Patty Griffith, or anyone from the Wainwright family. I can help you! There's so much good music out there. And food. I love to cook too. And then there are all of the places we've never been to that need exploring.

I'm an early-retired television news producer, and then progressive educator, and I'm back at work again. A nice thing about my job is that I can always move somewhere and find something to do. I indulged in radical, satirical politics in my youth. I still may. I went to San Francisco and Hayward State Universities to get teaching and administration credentials, then became vice principal of Berkeley HS and a principal elsewhere. I have a rescued black lab from Tennessee named Armand who needs some attention too. I think I'm a really good cook, at least when I have a recipe to follow.

I read mostly non-fiction books, especially cookbooks, and listen to very current music: Donovan Frankenreiter, Lucy Kaplansky, Sarah Harmer, Sarah Bareilles, Brandi Carlisle, She and Him (M. Ward and Zooey Deschanel, Emily's sister), Greg Laswell, The Felice Bros., The Avett Bros., Rodney Crowell, Enter the Haggis, Butterfly Bouchard, eastmountain south, Peter Bradley Adams, Ryan Adams, Ed Harcourt, Silver Jews, Fleet Foxes, The Kills, The everybodyfields, HEM, The Watson Twins, The Weepies, Belle and Sebastian, Fountain of Wayne, Sun Kil Moon, Beth Orton, Kathleen Edwards, The Frames, Guggenheim Grotto, The Shins, Arctic Monkeys, Iron and Wine, Lucinda Williams, Willie Nile, and Leonard Cohen, of course.

Sometimes I roast my own coffee beans, and I own a great espresso machine. I watch independent film, and an occasional zombie movie. I love to read the New York Times, the New Yorker, The Nation, NYRB, and Matt Taibbi's articles in Rolling Stone. Sometimes I wear pink dress shirts.
