A Sweet Summer's Night

Posted over 2 years ago

Last night I drove up with some friends to the top of a hill. From the top of this hill you can see the Nashville skyline, and at night, it's spectacular. There were maybe 20 or so other folks who had the same idea as us. We all sat, spread out on the grass. Some couples whispered softly while other groups laughed loudly. Then, a boy struck up a tune on his guitar. He sang two or three songs in Spanish, and everyone became quiet. We listened to the music and watched the twinkling lights of the city. Heat lightning lit up the sky beautifully, but the air promised rain, and a cool breeze wafted around us. The air felt so damn good, and the view in front of me was both promising and bittersweet at once.

For some people this might seem like an unremarkable moment, but I think I'll remember it forever. As it started to rain and we all ran back to our cars, I was reminded of this song.
