Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten

Posted 8 months ago

So I just watched Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten. I don't know why I did. I'm not familiar with Joe Strummer or the Clash (but after watching this film, I've realized that I should be). I had shit to do. I just thought, "you know what, I have this opportunity, why not?" And I'm so glad I did. Because besides being a great story, great film, great music, great, beautiful images, great crowd (who couldn't help chuckling at Johnny Depp), I had this weird experience. Throughout the whole film I kept noticing Joe Strummer's face: I wasn't sure why at first. I wasn't thinking, "oh, he is attractive" or "oh, he looks weird," I just had this strange feeling, looking at him. Toward the end of the film, it hit me: Joe Strummer looked like my grandfather, who just passed away this last November. It was really bizarre... but strangely right. My grandfather was a great man, and it seems like Joe Strummer was a pretty cool fellow. And it got me.

See this film, even if you aren't familiar with Joe Strummer. I was a little confused at some parts, but I think it is really well done. You'll leave with a good feeling. The message is great and in tune with most of my ideals.

Oh my, this brings back lots of memories. Saw lots of Clash gigs, saw a few 101ers gigs, spent a lot of 76 and 77 with Joe. I haven't seen the film because there's a St. Joe movement here in the UK and he was anything but. After watching this clip I'll have to see it. Thanks. You need 'London Calling' in your life and whatever live CDs and files and videos you can find. They were the most amazing band on stage.

Very cool.  Yeah, I kind of got that feeling from the way he is portrayed in the film, but I mean, once I'm gone I'd rather be remembered for the good rather than the bad, so I understand.
