...but it's my one year mog-niversary today! In merely a year, my music library has expanded tenfold (maybe more) with the help of artists such as The Decemberists, Cat Power, Stars, John Vanderslice, etc. etc. etc. I have seen more live shows than I'd ever have imagined in a lifetime. And of course, I found a place that feels like home. For me, mog is an escape from the judging eyes of the I-like-whatever's-on-the-radio-type-Top-40-obsessed population. I dared to be different in terms of music, but even eccentric music tastes need a place to belong to. Here, my music was accepted, even encouraged. The people on here urged me to search out new artists, explore different genres, and report back with a treasure chest of new songs and obscure covers. Mog was such a refreshing change from the snippy comments I used to get for not conforming to mainstream music. If I hadn't found mog when I did, I would have probably broken down by now and agreed to listen to god knows what trash that they play on TRL.
I realize this is a bit melodramatic, but thank you mog, thanks for (in a way) saving my life. And thanks to all the people who have been supportive and encouraging in my musical journey this past year. (sniff sniff) I know, cheesy, but you're only getting this once a year, I promise :)
