The future of indie rock?

So today, I threw my friend for a loop when I told him that the Olsen twins were not, in fact, his height (5' 9"-ish if you're wondering---no idea why he thought that). But I didn't create this post to discuss that set of sisters. No, in my opinion, Asy, Chloe, and Maia are much cooler. Especially because they cover Bloc Party. And do a fabulous job at it too!

I first discovered Smoosh about two years ago, and I immediately developed a love/hate relationship with the band. They're good. Incredibly good. But at the same time, the fact that they're sixteen, fourteen, and twelve makes me feel ashamed of myself. I'm eighteen and I can't play the bass half as well as Maia. Heck, I can't even play the drums at all (I have no rhythm. I was always the kid with the metronome at piano practice.) Then again, I can't feel that bad. How many tweens do you know that get to open for Tokyo Police Club and Death Cab?

On She Like Electric, Asy's voice gives away her age. It's not the easiest to listen to sometimes, but the killer keyboard riffs and drum beats make it worthwhile. Free to Stay, on the other hand, is a huge improvement, especially on vocals. Smoosh has a new disc slated for a 2009 release, and with Asy at sixteen, her voice should sound even better on this one. Chloe, the drummer, might just be legendary in her own right one day, for her skills at the skins are unbelievable. I'd dare to say she often outshines the already gorgeous melodies her sister plays on the keyboards. And little Maia, though you can't hear her half the time, should emerge as a fine bass player, starting this early and everything. The next Kim Gordon anyone?
