WE DO THE MASHED POTATO AND THE FUNKY CHICKEN

A Tribute to Community

http://mog.com/kaluss/blog_post/6880kaluss made my day with a reminder. Today would have been Jerry Garcia's birthday. The tributes trickle, remembrances flow, tears are held back...its hard not to wax philosophical. This guitar player impacted so many. My sister-in-law and her husband lived in SF in mid-60's. You wanna talk about blasting open a sheltered midwest mind? When they said "acid test":!http://stores.musictoday.com/store/product.asp?band_id=171&dept_id=1625&pf_id=DEAS072&sfid=21all I could think about was the HS Biology class I failed miserably that year - LOLSo the story begins - DeadHeads Unite! People scoff, shake their heads, roll their eyes...believe me when I say - there is/was nothing like a Grateful Dead show! Part concert, part cosmic, part theater, part growth experience...all music...for several hours. I love that band - duh - you can see by they MOG-O-MATIC listing. It never grows old...and for those kindred souls...check out "B42's place":http://mog.com/B42 - he's got links to everywhere. And a helping hand to all!I could go on and on - love of music burns deep in my soul. Jerry Garcia and the Band he played in rekindle the fire whenever it smolders. The life links through their music continue to grow. At times it gets stranger and stranger...I'll stop before we get to hackneyed.I think many of you are the same way about YOUR favorite band of ALL time? It may already have been done ( I can't keep up) but whaddya say MOGGERS? You don't even need a reason for it to be favorite of all time!"Here's a fun link to explore":http://www.dead.net/index2.phpPeace

  2. Sethpian says I was a "hardcore" deadhead for a good three to four years. The experiences were certainly ones that I will remember throughout my life, as this one big travelling roadshow/party/concert certainly made an impact on me. I spent a good part of college trying to find ways of "getting to the next show" without destroying my GPA. But I think the thing I took away from that experience was a deeper appreciation for music. As former metalhead, I discovered that there were other things out there that would stir me and deepen my appreciation for the art of music. I was exposed to folk, bluegrass, jazz, psychedelic rock, the "oldies", old-time R&B, the blues, Zappa, world beat, Indian, jam bands... an so on. The musical diversity that Deadheads brough to the scene was perhaps the widest of any individual following. You learned the band's influences, their tangents, as well as the other music that rocked the fans when eveyone was hanging out in the parking lot waiting for the show to begin (or their "miracle"). Yes, I loved most of the Deads music, and I certainly loved the scene. But of all things, I have to thank the Dead for expanding my musical tastes and letting me into that magical sphere that is "a different melody." And one last thing for Jerry: Sometimes the Lights all shining on me Other times I can barely see Lately it occurs to me What a long, strange trip its been. Think I'll go drop some window pane and burn a few candles....

  3. Heli0tr0pe says beautiful piece Dood - and i'll never forget that i owe to you the fact that i got to see The Dead about 22, 23 times through your good graces and cool connex, rather than only 4 or 5 times which would have much more likely been the limit - but instead i got to hand out a few flyers in the parking lots, which was an experience in its own right, and get te best reward of all...a real live Dead SHOOOW! YAAAAAY!!!
