WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

Hard Bop West Coast Style

Posted over 2 years ago
From a historical perspective, the West Coast Jazz movement is often looked at as academic and cerebral. The group that Shelly Manne led in the late 50s certainly did not fit into that category. This is a stripped down quintet playing in the Hard Bop / Jazz Messengers style. This track is taken from Volume 4 of a 5 Volume set of live recordings from the Black Hawk in San Francisco. Both Joe Gordon and Richie Kamuca burn on this one.

  1. Soulfunksticat says great recording. Joe Gordon was an incredible talent a lot of people don't know because he never really got very far into his career as a leader before passing away. Thanks for sharing this one!
