WE DO THE MASHED POTATO AND THE FUNKY CHICKEN

The Pipettes without context

Posted over 2 years ago
OK, I need a minor reality check here. I really, really like this album but I can’t quite put it into a context. Are they for real or are they some sort of calculated creation by a Simon Cowell wannabe? Is the ’60 girl group thing an homage, a post-modern ironic wink of the eye or something else.I’m not looking for validation of my taste. They’re fitting in nicely with Neil Young & Crazy Horse, James Brown and the Decembrists in my current heavy rotation but I’m curious as to what the story is. I’m not going to put them in any particular box, as the album is just too much fun that, but there is some comfort in context.

  1. Tuff Today, Tuff Tomorrow says hmmm, seems like a good concept, no need to label it...

  2. Zeroskilz says Well, I'm not sure, you will have to double-check the facts here. I believe it is supposed to be a serious/calculated not to the girl-bands of the time. However, I believe Jox posted a little while ago about how one of the girls left the band; so, it could all be inconsequential.

  3. Iren says It sounds like the context is.... Music that I am enjoying at the moment... and that's all you need.... and it was this post that got me to check them out after months of avoiding the hype/anti-hype
