Greetings,As you can see I’m looking for some "*_divine-moggers_ intervention*" thing. Well, there is a small list of female singers above this, and *YOUR* quest is to choose ONE, only one (but... if you are unable to make up your mind, you can always name two... although I prefer one).(You can also *click* on the names in order to listen/watch some samples)Jane.

  1. soulrocket says she’s not in that list but she’s the #1 for me, Holly Golightly

  2. bloodtea says Great! (I find quite difficult to point out my #1... guess something like Sandy Dillon or/and Nina Simone) ;)

  3. bloodtea says Oh.. and by the way, my purpose wasn’t finding miss number one. Just wanted to know which one (of those mentioned up there) moggers like. Anywayz, thanks :)

  4. kaleef says i vote kim gordon! sonic youth changed the way i listened to music, sonic youth and pavement, so definitely kim gordon. chan marshall would be #2!

  5. kaleef says not to mention that she's still rocking, their lastest album is great and they were the best live act for me last year. hands down. ok, i am done. (:

  7. Rawkkiddoh says Nina Samone

  8. dogpelt says Bjork always Bjork, there's only one other female songwriter who gets even close to her originality and inventiveness and that's Tori Amos

  9. Lizziegreeneyes says Fiona Apple would be my +first+ choice ... though there are 5 others up there who have my *unconditional love* ... _Thank you for being ... being you_ ;) Is there anything Patton touches that doesn't instantly become something I LOVE ??? **Nope, not a thing** Except that aparently he wants to be a woman ;), that would be so WRONG ... I need to be able to pine for him ... I may have girlcrushes - but I wants me some Mike sunny side up please !!! Sooo - are these top ladies on your list ... Kate Bush, Shawn Colivn, Jonatha Brooke Johnette Napolitano, Margot Timmons & Happy Rhodes would get an honorable mention from me if only for the fact that they aren't on the list but their influences run wide & deep - dogpelt already mentioned Tori. I'd also like to give a star to newcomer Amy Winehouse - dag that girl gotz pipes, lyrics & kickass nudie girl tattoos ervywhere she must be a Betty Page junkie along with her obvious music junkie status :) ... the crazy newlywed that she is :)

  10. contrabandwidth says Of those listed, probably Beth Gibbons - just because Dummy moved me so when I heard it, I had never heard anything like it. Being a guy, a female singer has to reach into me, make me fall in love, break my heart, and touch me with her voice in a way that I might just have to reconsider my gender for a moment. Here's who you missed: Patsy Cline Carol King - I don't care how much of a pussy I may sound like for this, but Tapestry is a great album. Gillian Welch Emmylou Harris Hope Sandalov (Mazzy Star) - Talk about falling in love with some one-yeesh! You could get fat from the butter in her voice. Man, I had the hugest crush on her.

  11. Lizziegreeneyes says Carol & Emmylou in the house, you're not a puss !!! Hope is cool too !

  12. ciphermedia says I can only do long termers who have proved themselves . Much as I love Beth Gibbons, she ain't got the runs on the board yet. It'd have to be be either Bjork, 'cos she's just so inventive, playful & weird, but probably really it's Nina Simone I reckon, from those on your list. Plus, as I've been listening to the new Cinematic Orchestra album today, I'd also have to add Fontella Bass.

  13. anna log says of those listed, nina simone without a doubt beth gibbons & bjork are fine, but nina simone kicks everyone's ass. she's womanly. beth and bjork aren't in her league here are some other female voices that i like in no particular order - they're voices that sound like WOMEN rather than girls to me (which is why even though i really like hearing joan jett sing, she's not on my list) mary weiss (the shangri las) jackie deshannon dusty springfield lulu patti smith linda thompson lara from the tough & lovely (columbus, oh garage band) ko shih (ko & the knockouts) margaret garrett (mr airplane man) penelope houston (the avengers) etta james mary wells wanda jackson tammy wynette chrissie hynde debbie harry

  14. Anonymous says Aimee Mann .... nothing else! heh

  15. libquaker says Kim, followed by Marshall. Kim's voice, on those early daydream/dirty/Experimental era albums isn't exactly singing, but i still love it. Marshall's voice on Dear Sir, especially rockets is great too. Lately, I've been loving Emma Niblett of Scouth Niblett, and Des Ark (Can't find the lead singer's name...). I'd recommend these two, not a lot of people have heard of them and they're good.

  16. bloodtea says *Rawkkiddo* - I'd choose the same ;) *dogpelt* - I thought of Tori Amos... *Lizziegreeneyes* - I agree with you in what concerns Patton... (I still remember the day I was like a couple of chairs far from him...I confess my backbone was shivering all the time - well, it's quite impossible to be at a Moonchild's concert without feeling something crawling down your spine). Well, these ladies are all from *my* top list but not in a specific order... Nina's #1 and for sure Sandy Dillon is next. There's plenty of room for Tori Amos (of course), Johnette Napolitano, and so on. *contrabandwidth* - hmmm... it's sweet how you describe the impact of a female singer on you. Being a guy, these days, requires some guts to say that (not that no man feels this way, but they just don't feel very comfortable...). I agree with Lizzie's "_you're not a puss !!!_". Carol King is really great and Sandalov too (one of those butter overdoses that do you no harm, and in the end you don't feel guilty about it) :P *ciphermedia* - "_Come on, baby, and rescue me_" must agree she has a wonderfull voice :) *anna log* - yeap.. kicks them all ;) *FlowerPower111* - (: *libquaker* - when you say Kim the first thing that pops into my mind is Panty Lies ("_don't just stare, 'cause she's not wearing underwear/ em-em-em-em-em-em-em-em_"). "Marshall’s voice on Dear Sir.." say no more.. (well.. not sure but isn't Aimee Argote from Des Ark?) *sunscream* - Ahah-ah

  17. Lizziegreeneyes says Joan Jett is **_ALL_** WOMAN - I still remember the first time I heard her sing - she's got mad power, mad strength ... she ROCKS ! I also gotta add two of my favorites from teh 80s & beyond two who are still totally valid today ... Pat Benatar (saw her a few years back - dag she still got *it* ), Cindi Lauper ... her voice - at a time when most people were all about Madonna (& she has improved immeasureably for me) I was all about Lauper & havin fun with my She Bop ...
