Many of us have probably seen this guy's work but didn't know the mind behind the madness. The man is Keiichi Tanaami. One of Japan's most famous modern artists. He's had tons of shows and has been one of the most prized and celebrated artists of the 20th century. He worked with Andy Warhol in the '60s and has done his fair share of drugs, which may explain some of his work.

I love/hate this art by Scott Campbell! The use of laser cutting and topographical layering to create a form is intriguing. And, I can understand using currency as a medium to display that it is either void of real value or can be elevated in value with an artists intervention. For these pieces though, the use of money just doesn't translate the message of the piece as well as another material ...

Today is the third annual Record Store Day.Unfortunately I can't partake in the festivities today but everyone else should. I kinda have a store in my house so I think I'll just go shopping at home tonight. In all seriousness though, if you love music or claim to be a DJ but don't have any records you need to go out there and support vinyl. It doesn't really matter if it's new or used. Just get...

This guy loooooves butterflies! So much that most of Paul Villinski's art incorporates butterfly shapes in various materials including vinyl records. Hopefully no good records or butterflies were killed in making these pieces.

Nope! Not the version you're thinking of by Michael McDonald (of the Doobie Brothers). This is from a wedding reception for Alex and Sarah, who know a thing or two about music....they got Antibalas with Blinky Griptite to play at their wedding!!! Here's a live version of the original-

WOW! Remember the cardboard sound cube I posted a while back? (here) Well this is a similar idea just waaaay better! This piece was an installation for 100% Design Tokyo and co-designed by two amazing firms from Amsterdam, Elastik Architecture and Mat Studio. Together these firms transformed a standard shipping container into a very unique and personal aural experience that is meant to be a bl...

Thanks to tdw for letting me know about this digital graffiti wall by YRWall. I love it when graffiti can transcend the streets and reach more people. This type of installation has HUGE potential and I'm sure we'll be seeing more of this in the future. Go to YR Wall's site >HERE

This is kinda dope. Unfortunately, the testers in the video couldn't really do anything but it has a lot of potential and looks like a lot of fun. It's not quite on the level of the Tagged In Motion project I posted back in the summertime (HERE) but, still this is quite impressive.

I've been wanting to post this for a while now but it's better late than never! Just go buy the new album by Platinum Pied Pipers, 'Abundance'. It's rare in modern music for an entire album to be thorough from start to finish and really hold my attention. Abundance does just that. It's a beautiful amalgamation of r&b, funk, latin and house. The range of emotions captured in the lyrics help to q...

David Ellis is an amazing contemporary artist. I've seen a few of his pieces out of context and didn't look him up. Very inspiring work. What's truly amazing is how big his body of work is at this point and how diverse he is. I have to wonder though...were any of the records used, still good? I've seen some terrifying acts by artists that didn't know how hard certain records are to find and the...
