As you can see I've been on a little LP ripping spree lately. This one is for my Dilla fans and basically everyone who enjoys a dope little groove with some sensuous vocals. Sylvia: Sweet Stuff (1976) BONUS: One of the writers of Sweet Stuff, Harry Ray of The Moments (and later Ray, Goodman & Brown) recycled the rhythm track on one of his own songs some 6 years later. Definitely not bad ei...
King Errisson: Well, Have A Nice Day (1977)A sophisticated piece of disco funk with latin touches and a classic old school break if there ever was one. I always really liked the vocals and the lyrics include some pretty memorable lines too.
Jesse Saunders' On & On, claimed by many to be the first house track ever, came about when Saunders lost a megamix record he liked to use for his DJ sets. He already had production experience and a few of electro / new wave releases under his belt, so he solved the problem by creating his own version of the megamix, over his own drum machine beats. The result was On & On, released on Jes Say R...

Christine Lewin: Juicy Fruit (1983)Christine's smooth lovers rock rendition of the Mtume classic, produced by Chosen Few of Trojan and Konduko fame. She delivers the song convincingly and whoever mixed the song makes a point of dubbing out the "i'll be your lollipop, you can lick me everywhere"-line.
Just messing around with Skitch. That's the first half of my 4 hour radio show this past Saturday. I felt like a real Fool's Gold fan boy after playing 6 songs from them. What can I say, they're steady putting out good stuff right now. Shout outs to my main man Nick. Also shout outs to Sammy Bananas who played a dope set at 6. Linja later that night. Here's some footage from the last minutes be...
Carol Williams: Can't Get Away (From Your Love) Special Club Dub MixSome more disco nerdery before we move on. After a few months of club and radio play Carol Williams' 1982 New York hit Can't Get Away (From Your Love) was given a special dub mix by Vanguard's in-house DJ Ray "Pinky" Velasquez . Carol herself added the famous spoken word intro, the remix was pressed on one-sided 10" vinyl and s...
Jimmy Briscoe & The Beavers: Into The Milky Way 8:08 Version (1979)In anticipation of this Friday's Solid Gold, here's ex-harmony group Jimmy Briscoe & The Little Beavers' big intergalactic disco record. 8 minutes of orchestral, atmospheric perfection, with a really cool breakdown halfway through as well. For whatever reason this is one of the harder Salsoul 12"s to find too.
Wax Master: Ride My Pony (1997)Wax Master Maurice's excellent Ginuwine rework has been requested repeatedly since I had it on a mix a while back, so here it is. Dude is one of my favorite Chicago producers, but for whatever reason he never reached a legend status like Deeon, Slugo, PJ and them.Get familiar:Going Down (Youtube)Ghetto Shout Out (Youtube)Bounce That Body (320)

Sammy's MyspaceTour Mix over at Fool's GoldDude also has a new EP called Braids & Fades out right now, you can grab my favorite track from it, Ladies, over at RCRDLBL
Kurious, Sadat X & Mike B: Mansion And A Yacht (1994) One of the definitive posse cuts of the era, the b-side to I'm Kurious . "Dropping jewels like a thief with a hole in his pocket". I had kind of forgotten how ridiculously good it is.
A few days back I was asking for Bobbito's old Rap Pages columns and I just found out there's a good one from August '93 up here . From what I hear more will be added soon too.
