WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT
The Council Flats of Kingsbury

"Influenced by the golden age of bossa nova, sophisticated soundtracks, classic psychological thrillers, and the subtle horrors of suburban life, the once enlightened Council Flats of Kingsbury make extreme efforts to hold it together for circa 35 minutes on this delicate home production."

Paul Baribeau covers Springsteen

This was lying around in my hard drive after an initial skimming period, when a few days ago I went back to see how it fared. It fared pretty good actually. I probably know no more than 3 Springsteen songs so I can't rate the covers against the originals, yet although for the 60s-70s folk connosieur Paul Baribeau's music may sound derivative, his energy & sincerity make up for the simplicity.

Harmony of the Spheres

On Khan's death in 1997, South Asia women wailed and men wept as if a god had removed himself from the earth. And in a way one had, because Khan had made the rich religious poetry of the Sufi tradition even more magical, bringing words and music together in an ecstatic celebration of the divine. To listen to him was to hear the harmony of the spheres.

My last.fm says I've listened to this particular song for 26 times, something I seldom do. I truly can't stop listening to this one, and FOR ONCE I even care about the lyrics of an indie rock song. Sing along with the Real Estate who're releasing one of the best LPs concieved this year, and this one comes from a an indie-rock/hipster sceptic. Out soon on Woodsist.

Sorry for sittin' on this one for so long, it's an amazing piece of history, and one that will set you looking for more from this era, if you've got the ears & mind. Kudos to Onur.

Used to have a few songs from this one and I think I even played one in previous undomondo shows, now I have the full release and it's full of gold. Dating from the most lucrative period in music history the 60's and the 70's, it's highly unlikely to be otherwise, anyway. Must get this one, piece of history I say!
