When European production duo Radioclit joined forces with Malawi-born singer-turned-antique store clerk Esau Mwamwaya under the group-name The Very Best last year the result was one of the more memorable mixtapes of the year. The trio's official debut album ‘The Heart of Africa’-a fusion of Mwamaya's African Pop stylings and Radioclit's diverse beats that, remarkably enough, doesn't sound like

‘Shafiq En’ A-Free-Ka,' the forthcoming solo debut from Shafiq Husayn of Sa-Ra Creative Partners isn't just my favorite Sa-Ra-related project to date. It's one of my favorite albums of the year. And “Nirvana,” an Afrobeat-infused Jazz-Funk skank with meandering brass, call-and-response chanting and George Clinton-meets-Afrika Baambaataa-style toasting atop is one of my most favorite-ish song

Back in the day I made a couple of beats for a young rapping dude named Kid Khalid from Hartford, Conneticut.Shortly thereafter he went away to college in Chicago, Illinois and I pretty much lost touch with him entirely. Thanks to the internet, and websites like MySpace and Facebook, we reconnected with each other a year or two back. These days he goes by the name DJ Tapedeck, he helms something ...

Brooklyn, New York-based emcee Tone Tank isn't just one of my favorite rappers, he's the owner of ScumLife, one of my favorite streetwear companies!Seriously, a week doesn't go by where I don't wear one of his many fresh ScumLife t-shirts which pay tribute to skate culture, Punk-Rock, Hip-Hop and random scumminess.Because it's about to be 9-11 Tone is putting the limited amount of stock he has ...

Bike theft. That was something I feared ever since I got my Mongoose Expert back in ‘85. If I wasn’t on it I had it chained up and locked. TWO TIMES! Granted they were those crazy cheap combination joints wrapped in plastic, but whatever. They got the job done. Due to my paranoia I never had a bike stolen. Everyone else I knew wasn't so lucky. So I dedicate this video to them. DON'T STEAL BIKE

With just a couple of weeks left in the season, Brooklyn, New York-based emcee Sene swings through with what just might be the feel-good Hip-Hop anthem of the Summer. It's an uptempo Blu-produced body-rocker tited “Please Don't Rain,” that puts a futuristic spin on that old Native Tongues steez, complete with Swedish songstress Kissey Asplund playing Vinia Mojica.Sene “Please Don't Rain” fe

Remember that Lily Allen-jacking “Peter Pan Complex” MP3 from Project Blowed-affiliated Los Angeles-based emcee Dumbfoundead I posted about a month or so ago?Well, here's his clasically-conceived, perfectly-executed, Old School-spirit-reviving Adam Stanzak and Tony Oberstar-directed video clip for “Rapper-O‘s,” a tune that’s 100% his!Seriously though, I came up watching joints like thi

The homie Terry Cole-musician, producer and owner of Middletown, Ohio-based label Colemine Records-just sent me a super-soulful remix he made for “Active Balanced,” a track from Portland, Oregon-based emcee Othello and Denver, Colorado-based turntablist DJ Vajra. The original version is a slab of bombastic, bass-heavy boom-bap laced with jazzy keys and etheric choral samples, but Terry's rework
