You are one of the most successful alternative bands in English history and although seen as Britpop’s poster-child your career was actually multi-faceted ranging from madchester lite pop, to mining the best British rock from the ’60s to ’90s with addtional excursions into post-grunge and art-rock. However you face a dilemma. Whilst you’ve buried the hatchet [...]

Florence sounds like Annie Lennox on this one, all soulful and Eurythmic slick in this Kate Bush meets Stevie Nicks forest frolic. Some corners are calling Lungs album of the year, but we'll ...

Stop Press, an official video has been released for "Two Weeks" and is every bit as magical as you'd expect. As we said in our review of Veckatimest (out 26 May) -- only the second album to get a perfect score here -- "Brian Wilson would kill to have as exquisite harmonies as these but, as is true of the whole record, it’s the entire arrangement that is so wonderful." Put your headphones on, wa.

DeerhunterScala, London18th May 2009Palpable expectation, a sold out crowd, a critically received album, a loud northerner standing beside me naively exclaiming “I hope they play something off Turn It Up, Faggot” and an unlikely intro tape of Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run”. This is how it begins. Four boys from Atlanta, Georgia casually stroll across [...]

The era of the celebrated cult movie soundtrack is something of the past. It has long since been used as a decisive marketing ploy and operates as an essential and cloying part of the movie-making process. In recent years we’ve had our Juno and Nick and Norah’s Ultimate Playlist, but what are they really but [...]
