Track:Solitude
B-sides are a funny thing. Often recorded at the last minute or pooled from the leftovers not deemed fit enough for an album release, these things can turn out a bit funny. With Girls however, things are different.Solitude, the b-side to the incredible Hellhole Ratrace which was released on Monday, sees Girls strip back their typically woozy, rock n' roll style for something altogether softer a...

Los Angeles noise rock 4-piece HEALTH will release their sophomore album 'Get Color' on September 7th, and we can give you the first taste of it with the magnificent 'Die Slow'.Die Slow is the obvious choice for their first single release from the new album, with its mesmeric blend of psych-disco and hardline noise rock. Lyrics and meaning take a back seat to melody and the lush qualities of th...

viaWith the time constraints that inevitably come with a new job, my podcast has really suffered. Well now it's back! Bigger and better than ever before, albeit coming just once a month instead of the usual weekly appearance. So for the first bumper edition I have some really amazing tracks, some that have already made it to the blog in the last 30 days or so, and a fair few that haven't. 100 words, two listens: the visceral reaction this sort of project seeks. Like so many side projects before, Discovery has its moments of utter brilliance, teasing one to the edge of ecstasy. But, just then, fits of overindulgence and half-baked ideas creep, pulling back from the precipice. Nowhere is this better epitomized than on “So Insane” which is riding that Japanese train towards transc

Scottish quartet The Twilight Sad delivered perhaps the darkest album of 2007 with their stunning debut 'Fourteen Autumns & Fifteen Winters'. Somewhat of a sleeper hit, their second LP 'Forget The Night Ahead' (October 5th via FatCat Records) will hopefully see the band garner the attention they truly deserve. If 'I Became A Prostitute' and the accompanying video is anything to go by, their next...

viaFirst up this week we have a remix of Jump Up by Major Lazer, this time Sticky K is the man upping the intensity... there’s no doubt this was a Switch and Diplo production originally. Next up Deadmau5 works his magic with a typical trance tune from Sasha, Xpander. To end the first half a favourite of ours, AC Slater adding his signature deep electro fidget bass line to Boom Style from the .

Having caught this band once in a support slot for Vampire Weekend I remember being taken aback at the sheer spookiness of their vocals. There was something wholly unsettling about their sound and yet something beguiling at the same time. I never did retrace my steps to track down their debut album 'Limbo, Panto' but for their second 'Two Dancers' (released Aug 3rd) I am more than ready to embr...

On ‘Bitte Orca’, Dave Longstreth and co craft a glimmering weave of soundscapes, effortlessly fusing soaring orchestral ambition with a refreshingly simple idea of pop music. The result is something close to a master class. It’s not Longstreth’s ability to make the superficially mundane sound like a hymn, nor is it fluttering golden harmonies of Coffman and Deradoorian that make ‘Bitte O

Here's the new video for Simian Mobile Disco's single Audacity Of Huge, taken from forthcoming album Temporary Pleasure released August 3rd. First up this week a catchy remix by Nick Catchdubs of Kanye's Champion. Then Major Lazer gets overhauled by Ernold Sane on Pon De Floor. Fans of Buraka Som Sistema you should like this. Next comes Herve. When think of Herve I think big tunes with big gritty basslines, and this remix of Depeche Mode does not disappoint. Another new producer to feature this week is Hot Noises. This remix of Soca

Another track off Til' The Casket Drops, the next LP from Clipse. For me this track has nothing on the Kanye track that dropped in late april. Produced by the Neptunes, this all very smooth and has none of the grind and texture that I love from other Clipse productions. Still holding out big hopes for the album though... Easy Star’s reimagining of Sgt Pepper is faithful to the style and quirks of the original, perhaps occasionally to the point of hurting half-hearted listenability. These aren’t resort-style reggae covers, all breezy and fluff. But after only a couple listens, you realize it’s even more fun because of that. There’s novelty in the familiarity, but these renditions stand on their own. Admitte
