So, somehow or another Promo Squad got 'hold of clips from two songs off Tori Amos' coming-in-May album American Doll Posse, news of which was announced Feb. 20. A lot of fans were not crazy about Tori's last album, The Beekeeper; it was a little poppy and silly compared to her groundbreaking work on albums like Boys for Pele or even Little Earthquakes. But Tori has promised that, now that her daughter is 6, she's put the high heels back on and is ready to resume excoriating the patriarchy and everything else that's going wrong these days. What's good about these two clips is that, although they are incredibly hooky (Tori has always been good at hook; musta been that diet of Beatles, Zeppelin and Bartok on which she was raised), they are much more gripping than most of what she wrote for Beekeeper. I'm grooving particularly on "Big Wheel," a fat, fast, grooving blues ball-buster. "Bouncing Off Clouds" is a little glossier, but the piano is very pretty and much more present than it's been on most of her songs for a while now. And, just because I can't get enough of this photo:
