peruvian sixties band, los golden stars

Posted over 4 years ago
los golden stars formed in lima, peru in 1966. their members came from 2 previous bands "los dakotas" & "los golden boys". they only released one album "angel" & a few singles including "alto, en nombre del amor" (stop in the name of love cover) & pasto verde (playboys green grass version) that were big hits in peru back in the day.their distinctive keyboard oriented sound make them appeal to the mod scene. los golden stars are considered an instrumental band for a lot of people, probably because their vocal songs are not that good and never became hits as the instrumental ones did. bringing 2 tracks "angel" and "tema de los golden stars" (comments section).download 4 of their songs for free here http://rock-peru.blogspot.com/2007/06/los-golden-stars-varios-audios.html

  3. soulrocket says hah, actually that was a picture but because it looked a bit bland i added the bands name to it. no idea how the real record cover looks like. its one of those difficult records to hunt. only released in peru as far as i know.

  4. Girlcrawl says Am so groovin' to these tunes - suddenly the only things I require for survival are a restored Vespa, some Mary Quant threads, Los Golden Stars, and goggles for Isa the pup! Appreciate the links, and fabulous post.

  5. soulrocket says a restored vespa.. way to go girlcrawl. they sure are a garage band but the keyboard lines blend the style adding a groove perspective. we need more dance bands, I always say it.

  7. soulrocket says i dont know about lambrettas, mate. they always looked like a f-up version of a vespa to me. i found out about los golden stars because of a spanish beat compilation that included "angel"and then i found that blog with the other extra tunes. obscure band for sure. peru provided some of the most amazing bands of the whole hispano scene. bands like los shains, los monstruos, los saicos,... great stuff.

  9. fistula spume says Most excellent Soulrocket. I have a psyche comp of Peruvian music from this time period. Can't remember what it's called. There's a few of them out there. I got the one I have a few years ago. I was quite shocked to find out that Peru had such a healthy garage/psyche scene in the 60's. Cool tracks btw.

  23. Spike says You're rescuing some undeservedly obscure gems for us, mate. Months ago I first noticed you when I saw your self portrait next a comment of yours, and it was a black and white photo of some 1950s black vocal group. Yes! Someone lost in the past like me.

  24. soulrocket says hey, charles. long time we dont talk. undeservedly? nah, you guys deserve only the best, seriously. yeah, so true. i think that was an olympics picture. i still remember when i got comments mostly by you, ivy & cody. you guys were (and still are) like the holy trinity for me. i had no idea what mog was about & i was very surprised somebody commented on my tunes. its being 4 months and a half since i joined mog and it feels like if it has been years. hope you do fine these days, man.

  25. Spike says The holy trinity, eh? Maybe we have shot at eventually being in the "cool" group. Mog is like being at a big stand-up cocktail party, where, for once, other people like to talk mostly about music. One wanders from conversation to conversation, sometimes worrying that an even more fascinating conversation might be happening somewhere else in the room among some witty experts one has never even heard of. The good thing about Mog is that one can read other people's old conversations, if they're still Moggers.

  26. soulrocket says the holly golly trinity more like it, heh. i wasnt sanctifying you, man.. thats an spanish expression to name a group of 3 on a fun way... it slipped out. yeah, i agree.. lots of good conversations around, a lot of information to digest every day too. i went thru a lot of old posts too when i had the time.
