Sublime Reunion Sparks Law Suit

Sublime is an amazing band with a troubled legacy, in addition to serving as the soundtrack to every mediocre frat boy bar band since 1997, there have also been heated legal battles regarding use of the name “Sublime.” This past year Sublime bassist Eric Wilson and drummer Floyd “Bud” Gaugh have been reuniting with, a new front-man, Rome Ramirez, referred to simply as “Rome.”
This past Saturday shortly before the band was to play it’s first large event at the Cypress Hill Smokeout, the estate of deceased singer Bradly Nowell released a statement threatening legal action, forbidding the trio from playing under the title Sublime. while some feel the surviving members of the band are entitled to use the name to help their careers and bring joy to fans, others argue that Bradly Noell would not have wanted it. Noells family argues that Bradly would not want the band to perform in this quote. “Out of respect for Brad’s wishes, we have always refused to endorse any group performing as ‘Sublime,’ and now with great reluctance feel compelled to take the appropriate legal action to protect Brad’s legacy”

Letters were exchanged between the Surviving members and the Estate, which can be read here. There is nothing short of an all out war right now on the internet between the two camps, this can be seen on the estate controlled “official” Myspace and Bud and Eric’s page.
