WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

Duffy does Coke

Posted 8 months ago
Scottish songstress (and recent Grammy winner) Duffy is shilling for Diet Coke in the UK. I really have no issue with the arrangement, as these days the dividing line between stars and brands is practically nonexistent.

But Duffy's Diet Coke advert (as they call 'em across the pond) premiered during The BRIT Awards a few weeks back, and I just came across a "making of the commercial" that is laughably ridiculous in its oh-so-earnestness.

Imagine The Office, but set in an advertising agency:

Diet Coke as the "moment to reconnect with yourself"? The message is about "encouraging women take control and say no"? It's just soda (or fizzy drink for any UK readers). Why so serious?

Women should really be saying no to mom jeans. And that includes their even more offensive cut-off cousin, jorts, which Duffy appears to be perfectly happy wearing in a national advertising campaign. (Sorry, but I just gotta be mean.)
