WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Here We Go Magic

Luke Temple’s foray into abstract indie pop as Here We Go Magic is notable not just for the blinding pop vignettes that stud the album, but the numerous and frankly superfluous excursions into white noise pointlessness. It’s the only album that I’ve heard this year that contains as much silence as this blog is accustomed to relaxing into (sorry about that chaps). Unfortunately, if we’re going to be honest, having more than one white noise song on an album is the musical equivalent of paying for a prostitute and then making her wait outside whilst you masturbate. What sets Here We Go Magic apart from both indie rock bands and pop groups is the certain element of organic invention and the feeling of spontaneity that his debut album exudes, but you can’t help but feel like he has allowed his creative tendencies too much of a free reign in parts. Here We Go Magic, then, is an exceptional and unmissable album… as long as you know where the skip button is on your CD player.

PS, I generally remove mp3 links as soon as hypem.com has aggregated them, so if you want to always be able to access the downloads, add Not Many Experts on Facebook.

Do you listen to the tracks of white noise on albums, or do you think they are self indulgent interludes?
