NASA's Spirit Of Apollo

Amongst the exceptional number of hyped albums to come out in the past few weeks, N.A.S.A released their project of five years in the making, "Spirit of Apollo". I'm sure you will have heard of it, given the names attached to the CD, so I'll skip right to the criticism part. Many people were shocked when Pitchfork gave it a 1.6, and it was indeed a little harsh, but "Spirit of Apollo" really isn't the album we were all hoping for; it's too dated, too samey and for an album that conjures up such a spectacular image, really quite dull in parts. That said, the production from the two N.A.S.A guys themselves is seriously fantastic throughout and the songs that they get right are absolute classics. The collaborations with The Cool Kids, David Byrne and Karen O are all absolutely fantastic, but they really have created one of the best pop records of recent times with "Gifted", a track featuring Kanye's polished verses and other vocals contributed by the peerless Santogold (Santigold nowadays, actually) and Lykke Li. It just sounds like Kanye's next hit single, but will it get anywhere? You tell me...N.A.S.A (featuring Kanye West, Santogold & Lykke Li) - Gifted
