Nighttime Lovers are mighty big groovers -- thanks to a fantastic selection of rare club cuts from the 80s! As with previous volumes, the cuts here go way past the obvious -- no over-reissued singles, nor too-poppy soul songs -- just tight-grooving numbers that show that there's plenty still to discover in the 80s soul scene! Instrumentation is heavy on keyboards and beats, but there's lots of warmer elements too -- especially the vocals, which are often wrapped around the rhythms in a really seductive way. The Nightime Lovers are at it again -- bumping and thumping their way onto the dancefloor in a wave of beats, basslines, and keyboards! As with previous volumes, the selection here is all top-shelf 80s groove -- a fair bit of obscure singles from the time, mixed with hard to find tracks by bigger artists, showing up here for the first time on CD. Most tracks are from the best years of 80s groove -- and although most of the instrumentation is electric, the vocals are warm and soulful enough to balance things out nicely. Boogie, electro, and 80s groove -- all sorted out nicely in this killer collection of ultra-rare cuts! As with previous volumes, this edition of Nightime Lovers shows a side of the 80s that hardly got any play at the time -- the more underground work by lesser-known artists, much of which was issued on the bigger labels, but failed to crack the charts! You'll recognize a few familiar names here, but even those are represented by under-discovered corners of their work -- and in true early 80s spirit, most tracks here are heavy on beats and keyboards -- yet still leave plenty of room for real soul vocals.
