Buddy Guy - 'I Was Walkin' Through The Woods' (1974)

Behold patients... Buddy Guy is the greatest livin' guitar slinger-rock ‘n roll would not be the same today if it wasn’t for the enchantin' magic medicine of this blues sorcerer. Eric Clapton has said, “He was for me what Elvis was probably like for other people... My course was set, and he was my pilot.”

Durin' the after hours here at the asylum, all the doctors 'n nursemaids have been celebratin' Buddy’s Chess Records catalog. One of our favorite quotes about Buddy's early sound came from Chess Records head Leonard Chess. "Ain't nobody gonna listen to that noise. You turn that up that loud, don't nobody wanna hear that." Then referring to it as, "Motherfucking noise." Years later in '68 Chess heard Cream do "Strange Brew," and he said, "You've been tryin' to do this for years, and I was too fuckin' dumb to listen."

A few months back we came across an LP that collected a few of Buddy's earliest Chess sides entitled: I Was Walkin' Through The Woods (1974). Now patients, this was long before the duet albums of today. This LP is the real deal! A collection of the best and rarest material Buddy recorded early on for Chess (1960-1964). Here you get the full spectrum - slow grit hoofbeats ("I Got A Strange Feeling" to an electric howl of whiskey soaked fretted fingerboard violence ("Let Me Love You Baby"). With Buddy's guitar set high in the mix you will be sure not to miss the shape shiftin' arrestin' sounds comin' outta Buddy's strat. The LP also includes some great backing musicians, Little Walter, Otis Spann, Junior Wells, Jimmy Rogers, Willie Dixon and Fred Below (Not all mentioned musicians appear on all I.W.W.T.T.W. tracks).
