The Priest They Called Him (A Junkies Christmas)

Posted 10 months ago

Is your mind on the blink? Are you searchin' for that immaculate fix? If so, er, well, now is yer time. Because today the doctors and nursemaids here at the asylum have a first of its kind. A collaboration of doom struck minds.

In 1992, William S. Burroughs (the author of Naked Lunch) & Kurt Cobain (you know) released an 'album' entitled, The Priest They Called Him. The collaboration was caught in the middle of Nirvana's Nevermind & In Utero.

The story is read by the "thinlipped cold bluelipped faced" Burroughs and is addled with Cobain's junk-sick distorted noise. Think of it as a moonshine aided Kentucky horse race and a clandestine burial ceremony all rolled up into a thunderhead of smoke.

Does anyone have any background on this track?

i have this on vinyl - a 10" picture disc with photos of Kurt and WSB and etched on one side with their autographs.  i also had the luck to sit with WSB in his KS home 1 year after he recorded this.  he told story after story as if i were his own grandaughta....  it sounded a little different than his reading voice, but no less gravelly.  i LOVE this record (The Priest...), highly recommend it to Burroughs fans and any fans of distorted guitar noise.   the music is VERY avant-garde but excellent at that.
