THE WOMBATS – IS THIS CHRISTMAS?

Before a note was even played through my speakers, I was completely aware of what this song would sound like. The hi-octane, effervescent musicianship you'd come to expect from of The Wombats, sarcastic-laden lyrics and a horn and bell input. Alas, my prediction was correct, although it is not as disappointing and annoying as previously anticipated.
The Wombats take a darker lyrical approach in 'Is This Christmas?', commenting on television re-runs of Back to the Future and awkward family debates, culminating in Matt Murphy declaring 'on no, it's Christmas'. Murphy and co's attempt at the ironic Christmas anthem is just another notch on the list for Noddy Holder and his 'Top 100 Christmas Crackers' this time next year.

'Is This Christmas?', the profits of which will be donated to learning disabilities charity MENCAP, is unlikely to stand the test of time as a Christmas cracker, but I am sure that The Wombats and special cameo Les Dennis will raise a few smiles this festive season.
