WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Toronto's Great Lake Swimmers: new live EP and videos

Posted 6 months ago

Hazy country-tinged, unpretentious folk rock tunes, moderate melancholy, plushly layered harmonies....Great Lake Swimmers from Toronto, fronted by Tony Dekker and his easy-yet-haunting voice, evoke afternoon heartache, tall pine trees and hawks overhead in crisp weather under a soaring blue sky, and cozy hearths of refuge, all at once. The pedal steel tugs at heartstrings while mandolin ruffles the atmosphere just enough. Stand-up bass. Sensitive, steady drums and a neat variety of percussion.

One listen will have you writing the band to come over for tea and a casserole and maybe a backyard hangout to listen to the crickets and gaze appreciatively at the sparkling stars above.

Wait. Before I fall any deeper into a Great Lake Swimmers-induced hypnotic spell, let me tell you about their new live EP: You have to go to iTunes to get it - it's an exclusive. 7 songs, 4 bones. It will do the trick when you need to take things down a notch or when you need just the right music to pair with the glass of red and that special dinner you made to share with your sweetheart.

A good sampler of Great Lake Swimmers music is streaming at their website HERE in case you need a refresher. Also, check out the live video, recorded in a Legion Hall, below:
