First Week Sales of R.E.M.'s Collapse Into Now Dissapoint

Posted about 1 year ago

Collapse Into NowThe first week sales of R.E.M.'s Collapse Into Now seems to be falling quite short of 2008's Accelerate.

Hits Daily Double has released their estimates of first week sales based on two days worth of data and they show Collapse Into Now moving between 50 and 55,000 copies the first week. Accelerate sold 115,000 copies in its first week in 2008.

The album also is looking at a debut somewhere between number 5 and 7 when the charts are released next Thursday, short of the number 2 debut of Accelerate. In 2008, the album was kept from the top of the charts by the release of George Strait's Troubadour. Collapse Into Now is being outsold by first week sales of albums by Lupe Fiasco, the Glee Cast, Avril Lavigne and, possibly, Sarah Evans along with the third week sales of the biggest album of 2011 so far, Adele's 21.

Hits Daily Doubles estimates for the week:

  • Lasers - Lupe Fiasco (212 to 225,000)
  • 21 - Adele (120 to 130,000)
  • Glee Volume 5 - Glee Cast (90 to 100,000)
  • Goodbye Lullaby - Avril Lavigne (85 to 90,000)
  • Stronger - Sarah Evans (50 to 55,000)
  • Collapse Into Now - R.E.M. (50 to 55,000)
  • Sign No More - Mumford & Sons (45 to 50,000)
