The classic British folk-rock band, Fairport Convention, is finally collaborating on the first authorized book on their history. Fairport by Fairport is being written in conjunction with group expert Nigel Schofield and, when finished, will only be available through the Fairport website.

The book will cover all of Fairport Convention's career "on stage, in the studio, and in significant locations in the UK, Europe, Australia and the USA and will explore the complex web of influences which have shaped 'the world's first and greatest Folk Rock Band.'" There will be interviews with all of the principals over the years along with extensive analysis of all of the group's albums.

Plans are for the book to be lavishly illustrated with hundreds of photos from the archives of the band and its former members Ashley Hutchings, Richard Thompson and Dave Swarbrick. The format will be coffee-table book with high-quality heavyweight paper in a decorative slipcase.

Fairport Convention has a rich history starting in 1967 and still performing today. With a myriad of personnel changes over the years that included stints by such luminaries as Sandy Denny, Richard Thompson and Iian Mathews, the group has still managed to evolve and thrive.
