Artist:
Our weekly recap of veteran artists on the current music charts. Chart highlights:
- Enya makes a big splash around the world with her new album And Winter Came... . It premiers at number eight in the U.S., six in Britain and four in Canada while the single, Trains and Winter Rains , has hit number six in Japan.
- Producer and writer David Foster debuts at 46 with Hit Man, a live show with a number of artists performing his hits.
- The Smiths make a minor splash in the U.S. as their latest best of collection, The Sound of the Smiths , premiers at 98. In Britain, it starts at 21.
- Christmas is starting to hit its stride on the Pop Catalog Album chart as David Seville & the Chipmunks make it to number four with the highest ranking album by a veteran artist. Christmas albums from Luther Vandross and the Temptations also reenter the R&B Catalog Album chart.
- Country's Kenny Chesney is bringing a few veteran artists along for the ride on his last couple of singles. Everybody Wants to Go To Heaven with the Wailers is a former country number one while his latest, Down the Road with Mac McAnally is new at 24.
- Last week, it was just Brooks & Dunn on the Country Singles chart with Cowgirls Don't Cry, but the duo performed the song with Reba McEntire at the CMA Awards and the record company rushed the new version out to radio where it is now shown with her name added. It's at 19 on the Country Singles and 63 on the Canadian Singles charts.
- Those CMA awards gave a real boost to George Strait 's latest album, Troubadour . He won Album of the Year and Record of the Year for I Saw God Today , propelling the album from 83 to 37 on the Album chart and 15 to 10 on the Country Album chart.
