WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

Neil Diamond & Rick Rubin to Return to the Studio

Posted 11 months ago

Neil Diamond and Rick Rubin are about to take their musical relationship for a third spin, returning to the studio to record the follow-up to their two critically acclaimed albums, 12 Songs and Home Before Dark .

Diamond tells Billboard that the two will be meeting on January 12 to discuss the next steps. "I told (Rubin) I want to start writing on the 12th. He said, 'Why don't you not start writing and let's sit down and talk about what the concept is and what we're gonna do.' I said, 'Good idea,' so we'll meet on the 12th and go from there."

Ideas have already been bantered around and Diamond says that the new album will be "a different concept, a different approach..." He also stated that there are some great songs in the can from the last two albums, but he isn't sure whether they will fit on the new LP. "We're going to make believe there's no such thing as songs in the can. We don't know if the songs we've recorded are going to be meaningful or even usable on this next album."

Diamond also announced that the current tour has been filmed and will come out as both a TV special and a DVD.
