Neil Young's MusiCare's Person of the Year Gala looks like it's going to have a pretty spectacular lineup. At the top of the list is the first public performance in a couple of years for the Red Hot Chili Peppers as they bring their hiatus to an end. Also performing are Crosby, Stills and Nash, Dave Matthews, John Mellencamp, Wilco, Jackson Browne, kd lang, Norah Jones, James Taylor, Sheryl Crow, Ozomatli, Josh Groban and Everest. The event is January 31 during the Grammy weekend.
The Beatles: Rock Band has been a good size hit within the video gaming industry, outselling Guitar Hero 5 which was released in the same time period, but Viacom has said that the game is just now starting to break even.
Viacom CFO Tom Dooley said "Rock Band was a negative contributor to margins in the third quarter. We expect it to break even or be slightly profitable in the fourth quarter from a margin point of view. It really depends on how many units we sell in the holiday season."
The big issue has been the cost of the instrument/controllers that come with the most expensive version of the game. Harmonix and MTV Games have gone so far as to suggest that gamers buy the lower price version of the game and use their existing controllers rather than pick up the special Beatles facsimile instruments.
Even after having his initial claim dismissed in court, Samuel Bartley Steele is continuing to pursue his $400 billion (yes, with a "b") lawsuit against Bon Jovi, Time Warner and Major League Baseball.
Steele claims that his song (Man I Really) Love This Town was stolen for the Bon Jovi song I Love This Town which was used by Major League Baseball during the 2007 World Series. During his initial hearing, the judge said that he didn't feel a jury would hear any similarity between the two songs and dismissed the case. Steele is in the process of appealing that decision.
LL Cool J announced on Twitter that he will be producing and hosting the Grammy Nominations Concert on December 2.
Brian May and Roger Taylor appeared at the Edinburgh opening of the Queen musical We Will Rock You, joining in for the Bohemian Rhapsody encore.
