Rock Hall of Fame Saluting Janis Joplin for American Music Masters Series

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is celebrating the career of Janis Joplin as part of the 14th Annual American Music Masters Series. Numerous events are scheduled at the Hall and in conjunction with Case Western Reserve University all leading up to a November 14 tribute concert.

Concerts by Big Brother and the Holding Company and a introductory lecture on Joplin have already taken place while the following events are yet to come:

  • Tonight (November 10) - Screening of the movie Festival Express which includes footage of Joplin from a 1970 tour of Canada with the Grateful Dead, the Band, Buddy Guy and others at the Rock Hall's Foster Theater.
  • Wednesday, November 11 - Hall of Fame Series with Jorma Kaukonen of the Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna at the Rock Hall's Foster Theater.
  • Thursday, November 12 - From Songwriters to Soundmen featuring Joplin's former road manager John Byrne Cooke at the Rock Hall's Foster Theater.
  • Friday, November 13 - Concert by Ray Benson and Asleep at the Wheel at Wilbert's in Cleveland.
  • Saturday, November 14 - Rock and Roll Retrospective at Case Western Reserve's Wolstein Auditorium featuring Joplin's sister and brother, Laura and Michael Joplin, songwriter Jerry Ragovoy (Piece of My Heart, Time is On My Side), singer-songwriter Country Joe McDonald, writers Ann Power, Holly George-Warren and Lucy O'Brien, Sirius Radio DJ Dusty Street and David Barnett of Cleveland's WVIZ.
  • Saturday, November 14 - Tribute Concert at Playhouse Square's State Theater featuring Ray Benson, Michael Carabello, Guy Clark, Roky Erickson, Nick Gravenites, Nona Hendryx, Bettye Lavette, Country Joe McDonald, Bob Neuwirth, Gregg Rolie, Susan Tedeschi, Lucinda Williams and Carolyn Wonderland along with surprise guests.

Previous American Music Masters Series have saluted Woody Guthrie, Jimmie Rodgers, Robert Johnson, Louis Jordan, Muddy Waters, Bessie Smith, Hank Williams, Buddy Holly, Lead Belly, Sam Cooke, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis and Les Paul.
