Music Video Games Sell Big, Damned Cancel Tour, more

The Beatles: Rock Band sold a total of 595,000 copies in September, placing it third on the list of sales for all video games behind Halo 3: ODST and Madden NFL 10. In fourth place was Guitar Hero 5 with sales of 495,000. The Beatles game had the second best dollar total for the month due to the fact that it sells for about 130% more than other games.

The music boom in video games won't be stopping soon as the next 2-1/2 months will see DJ Hero, Band Hero and Lego Rock Band along with the release of further Beatles music such as the complete Abby Road album.

In other video game news, the charity single for The Beatles: Rock Band, All You Need is Love, has been purchased by 100,000 people so far.

Punk pioneers the Damned have canceled their U.S. tour because the State Department had not approved their visas. They posted on their website "We are devastated to be disappointing our fans in the U.S. who wished to see us on this tour, and sympathize with all those who have made travel arrangements and other commitments."

Gloria Estefan has bought over 2,000 tickets for her show in San Juan, Puerto Rico to be given away to those who lost their jobs on November 6. Almost 17,000 government workers were laid off due to the current economic climate. Puerto Rico currently has a 15% unemployment rate.

Ricky Skaggs took home the award for Mainstream Country Artist at the 15th annual Inspirational Country Music Awards. The show salutes artists that record Christian and other inspirational music. CrossCountry the Band were voted Entertainer of the Year.

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a resolution honoring country music for its contributions to America. Representative Cliff Sterns (R-FL) said "Country music traces its roots to the folk tradition of the British Isles and the Celts of central and western Europe; however, here in the United States, early immigrants, as well as African slaves, contributed to a new, distinct style of music that continued to develop through the 18th and 19th centuries. The history of country music is the history of our country.

"Subgenres such as bluegrass, folk and gospel have combined the unique instrumentation of country with powerful vocals to create one-of-a-kind sounds. Today, the influence of American country music is worldwide, with large fan bases in Canada and Australia, as well."
