Carly Simon Sues Starbucks Over Last Album

Artist:
Carly Simon has told the New York Times that she is suing Starbucks and its Hear Music label over their handling of her last album, This Kind of Love.Simon filed suit in Los Angeles on Friday, contending that Starbucks did not tell her that they were shutting their music division, an action that happened five days before This Kind of Love was released. The action by Starbucks, which included firing the label's executives who negotiated the deal with Simon, left the singer to promote an album that she feels was left behind in the chaos of the changes. The suit states that the album was not supplied in adequate numbers to Starbuck's stores and later had the price slashed. She is seeking both monetary damages and the return of her masters.
Simon told the Times that the album was meant to be her swan song, but left her in financial straits. She contends that she is not a rich person who, despite perceptions, is not a publishing heiress as her father sold Simon & Schuster before she was even born.
"I refuse to go gently. I've been stepped on too much in my life…. I feel that I've just about had enough."
