Barbra Streisand promoted her new album, Love is the Answer, and threw in a few favorites during an hour long show Tuesday night at the Village Vanguard in Greenwich Village. Among the 78 lucky people to gain admittance to the show were Bill and Hillary Clinton, James Brolin, Nicole Kidman, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Alan and Marilyn Bergman (Streisand commented that she had recorded 52 of their songs).

Song selections included Evergreen, The Way We Were, My Heart Belongs to Me, My Funny Valentine and Make Someone Happy. According to reports, she didn't sing one of her signature songs, saying "When I sing songs like People over and over, I get a little bored."

Sony Music Entertainment and EMI Music Publishing have signed an agreement to reissue the music of Phil Spector's Philles Records.

The first release will hit stores November 10 with A Christmas Gift to You on Sony Legacy. There's no word if this will be an expanded edition. Following in the new year will be artist compilations and an album of studio rarities.

The whole Christmas album from Bob Dylan keeps just getting stranger and stranger. The formerly anti-establishment artist is making Christmas in the Heart available for download a week early, but only if you are a member of Citibank's Rewards Program.

Billy Joel is reportedly receiving $3 million to write his autobiography for Harper Collins.

Tony Carey has told Classic Rock magazine that will most likely never be a reunion of Rainbow.
“I’d love the chance to get on stage again with Ritchie Blackmore, Ronnie Dio and Jimmy Bain. We could have Bonny Rondinelli or Greg Smith on drums, replacing Cozy Powell. But I tell you right now, it will never happen.

“Ronnie needs the aggravation of working again with Ritchie like he needs a new asshole. And Ritchie is so into his renaissance music, with Blackmore’s Night, that I doubt he even thinks about getting Rainbow back together. So, anyone who is holding out the hope of a reunion? Forget it.”

Grammy Award winning engineer and producer Greg Ladanyi passed away on September 29 as the result of an on-stage accident Friday night. He was 57.

Ladanyi's Grammy was for engineering the album Toto IV. His long list of productions includes albums for Jackson Browne, Warren Zevon, Don Henley, Fleetwood Mac and the Jacksons.

Yesterday may have marked the most competitive release day of 2009 with major albums coming from both veteran and modern artists. After one day of sales, Mariah Carey and Paramour seem to be battling for the lead with a projected 160 to 170,000 copies sold for the week, but veteran crooner Barbra Streisand is right on their tails, looking towards 150,000 copies sold of Love is the Answer. Other veterans vying for the shoppers include Madonna, who just started at the top of the British charts with her greatest hits collection Celebration (60 to 70,000), and Lynyrd Skynyrd's new one God and Guns (30 to 40,000). We'll know more a week from Thursday when the official charts come out.
