The Country Music Association announced its nominees for the 43rd Annual CMA Awards earlier today by Darius Rucker and Lee Ann Womack on ABC's Good Morning America and by Randy Houser on CMT.
Brad Paisley led the nominations with six while George Strait, Keith Urban, Jamey Johnson, Taylor Swift and Zac Brown each received four.
Veteran Artists were nominated in eight of the twelve categories, including sweeping all five nominations in Vocal Event and Musician of the Year. Along with Strait, other veterans receiving nominations were Reba McEntire (2), Randy Travis (2), Mac McAnally (2), the Eagles, Ricky Skaggs, Bobby Braddock, Eddy Bayers, Paul Franklin, Dann Huff and Brent Mason.
Update (Friday, September 11, 2009): The Country Music Association announced that they inadvertently left the record Start a Band by Brad Paisley and Keith Urban off of the list of nominees for the Vocal Event of the Year. This brings Brad Paisley up to seven nominations and makes it so veteran performers no long sweep all the nominations in the category.
